Milled Coins have been made by some form of machine, as opposed to being man-made. These are generally more modern and more refined, though early techniques differ greatly from the refining processes of today.

Hammered Coins are those produced by hand, and were for thousands of years the only way to produce metal coins. Fake coins and ever-growing demand due to growing populations globally forced innovation and a move towards Milled Coins.

Gold Guineas are a type of British gold coin first introduced in the mid to late 1600s and used until the early 1800s, when they were replaced with the likes of the gold Sovereign.
