Gold Laurel Coins

The Laurel was an English Pound coin (20 Shillings) produced during the reign of King James I, making Quarter Laurels worth 5 Shillings in old money. The coins were produced between 1619-1625 and the successor to the Sovereign and the Unite, before the Sovereign returned to replace the Laurel.

'Laurel' refers to the wreath crown that the King is pictured wearing; a common symbol of nobility.
