The American gold Buffalo coin, is the US Mint's first 24 carat bullion coin (9999 fineness). US Buffalo Gold Coin
The US Buffalo gold coin was introduced by the US Mint to compete with other 24 carat bullion coins produced by international mints. Similar to the Eagle, they have a face value of $50 and are legal tender in United States.
The main obverse design features a native American by designer James Earle Fraser, whilst the reverse shows depicts the American bison, who was actually based on "Black Diamond", a resident bison at New York City's Central Park Zoo in the early 20th century.
With limited annual mintage, the US Buffalo gold coin is highly sought after by both collectors and investors.
