Gold Standard Coins

The Gold Standard coin is a quarter ounce bullion coin produced by The Royal Mint. It was created to commemorate the establishment of the British Gold Standard back in 1816. For over 100 years, the United Kingdom's currency was gold backed - it had a guaranteed value based on the price of gold.

Dominique Evans, a graphic designer with The Royal Mint, created the reverse side of the coin. The scales reference accuracy measurements taken when dealing with gold, and the engraver initials DME are also present.

At 7.77 grams it's slightly lighter than a Sovereign coin but does contain more gold due to being a 24-carat gold coin. The coin also has a nominal face value of £25, meaning it is exempt from Capital Gains Tax. Coupled with being VAT-free this makes the Gold Standard coins an excellent choice for investors.
