The tenth ounce gold Britannia was introduced in 1987 alongside the full ounce coin as a way to offer smaller investors the opportunity to own a coin in the range. With a face value of £10 the tenth ounce gold Britannia contains 3.1 grams of gold. As with all Britannias these were originally 22 carat coins, but have had their purity increased to 24 carat since 2013.
